Meeting Minutes for meeting held on June 4, 2003

Meeting called to order by Terri Gregersen at 8:00 a.m.

 

New members and businesses are always encouraged.  Subway will be opening later this summer.

 

Minutes of the last meeting were distributed.  Minutes are being e-mailed to members for which we have addresses.  Minutes are also available on-line at pecweb.com.  Don Sandell moved to approve the minutes from last month.  Ed Smith seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s report was distributed.  Joy Seaton moved that a budget be set for the Welcome Center of $1,200.00 to cover the costs of employing someone to man the Center on Saturdays in the event the necessity arises.  Joan Cunningham seconded the motion.  A roll call vote was taken and the members in attendance voted as follows:  Joy Seaton – Yes;  JoAnn Freese – Yes;  Don Sandell – Abstain;  Janet Fuenty – Yes;  George Anderson – No;  Ed Smith – No;  Joan Cunningham – Yes;  Terri Gregersen – Yes.  Motion carried.

 

Committee Reports

 

Finance and Administration Committee, Chairperson, Joy Seaton, no report was made.

 

Membership Committee, Chairperson, Janet Fuenty, made no report. 

 

Welcome Center Committee Chairperson, Joan Cunningham, reported that the Center has no one to work on Saturdays during the summer.

 

The Pecatonica Historical Society wants to assemble booklets promoting local businesses and restaurants to tourists.  Businesses are encouraged to send information and pamphlets to the Welcome Center.  A $20.00 annual donation is requested.  Joan Cunningham moved that PIA form a committee to speak with the Historical Society regarding the layout.  Janet Fuenty seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously.  Terri Gregersen and Joan Cunningham will constitute the committee.  Any other interested members should contact Terri Gregersen.

 

Streetscape Committee.  Discussion was again had regarding repairing and replacing the lights outlining various businesses.  Discussion was had regarding how many lights to purchase as a discount is available for purchasing 1,000 or more light bulbs.  Joan Cunningham moved that PIA expend $250.00 plus shipping to purchase 1,000 light bulbs.  Ed Smith seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Thank you to the Pecatonica Garden Club for replacing the flowers in the planters downtown.  Businesses with planters in front of their businesses are asked to water the flowers every other day.

 

Advertising and Business Promotion committee Chairperson, Tara Thiesen, is unable to present Plaques and Golden Hammer awards on Friday, June 6th, at Sandell Family Chiropractic and the Ferguson Agency.  Terri Gregersen and Joy Seaton will present the awards.

 

Crooked River Days.  Crooked River Days Chairperson, Don Sandell, reported that limiting promotion to the free advertising provided by the Gazette did not result in a decrease in attendance at the weekend’s events.  A general discussion was had regarding how to increase attendance for the various events, including the carnival.  No conclusions were reached, but interested members should contact Terri Gregersen and come to future meetings to discuss their ideas.  Events such as the Street Dance, Bull Ride, and Hay Stack hunt were a big success.  The events at the Pecatonica Equine Center were also a great success.

 

A motion to pay a $360.00 bill for portable toilets passed unanimously.

 

Memorial Day Parade.  George Anderson and all members in attendance agreed that the parade was a huge success.  Congratulations to George for arranging the Air Force Band “Pops Unit” and the fly over.  All were impressed and enjoyed these additions to the festivities. 

 

Community Calendar is now posted on pecweb.com.  Not-for-profit organizations may e-mail the details of their event to pecweb@aeroinc.net for inclusion on the calendar.

No officer’s meeting will be held this month.

 

Some pictures for the PIA’s display at the Winnebago County Fair need to be updated.  To update pictures, members should contact Terri Gregersen.  The Fair Association also requires a certificate of insurance, which Ferguson’s Agency has already agreed to send.
